Sunday Summary

Here's a quick summary of Rev. Macon's September sermons.
September 17, 2017
We're Gonna Make It
Psalms 40:1-2 - (NIV)
1 I waited patiently for the Lord;vhe turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
You've had times that you thought you weren't going to make it. BUT you're here. You are living proof that God hears us and can still answer questions and solve problems. Have you ever stopped to think about where you'd be without God? Think about it...Now, we aren't saying that you're through struggling yet. However, you should be be encouraged. You're saying, "What!? How can I be encouraged when my bills are due and I have no money. When I'm sick and see no way to get well. When my family won't act right?!" Well, think about it this way. If the Devil targets you, you are doing something right. He wants to steal, kill and destroy, and HATES when he sees people doing right. But just remember, with God on your side, YOU'RE GONNA MAKE IT. Praise your way through those struggles. Be blessed!

Jesus Makes Strangers Family
Philippians 1:1-6 - (NIV)
This was a special sermon for our Family and Friends Day program today.
1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all God’s holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons 2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
During this text, we read about our guy, Paul. Can you guys tell Rev. Macon is a big fan of Paul? Any who, Paul is thanking God for memories in Philippi, and he tells the story of the three strangers. First, Paul recalls Lydia, a wealthy business woman that believed in one true god, but didn't know who it was. She met Paul and Lydia was able to meet Jesus through him. The second was the demon-possessed woman being used by men in the city for personal gain. Paul was able to exorcise the demons from the woman and she met Jesus through Paul's preaching of the Gospel. In fact, Paul was arrested for helping her because those men accused Paul of "causing trouble in the city." His third stranger was the jailer. While locked in jail, around midnight, Paul began to praise the Lord and our great God shook the walls of the prison. The jailer was going to kill himself because, with the prisoners escaping, he was going to die anyway. Well, Paul called out and told the jailer to do himself no harm and they are still there. The jailer ended up taking Paul to his home where Paul introduced him to Jesus and converted his entire family. What's the point of those memories? Jesus has the power to take total strangers who ordinarily wouldn't cross paths to become family, not by their blood, but through his blood. Be blessed!

The Characteristics of a True Believer
Psalms 1:1-6 - (NIV)
1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither-whatever they do prospers. 4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
During this Sunday, Rev Macon taught us the three characteristics of a True Believer; based on spiritual success. Okay, okay, we get it. Spiritual success. Man, what a concept, especially in a world that values materials things. But follow us. The three keys might help you wrap your head around this concept. (1) The path of a True Believer is different. Have you had the opportunity to do the right thing and someone talked you out of it? We, as True Believers, have to separate ourselves from the path of wicked and walk differently. (2) The pleasure of the True Believer does not lie in material things. You're saying, "What!? I'd have some real pleasure in a new car, house, clothes, big bank account." We get it! But your real pleasure comes from completely and genuinely being in love with the Word of God. To the Believer, the Bible is more than just a storybook. It's the absolute truth and our "playbook" to life. Before we find pleasure in material things that will go away, let's find pleasure in God's Word that's eternal. (3) Let's talk about the prosperity of the True Believer. Our scripture above states that the Believer is positioned like a tree by the River. Think back to classes you had in school when you learned about rivers. What did they do? They give and sustain life! God is our River! A True Believer who clings to God will never look dry! Be blessed!
