1 Thessalonians 5: 16 - 18 NIV
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances;for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
 We've all had struggles and been through something in our lives. We've seen setbacks, heartbreak and health problems. As Christians, we use Sunday to recharge, right? Well, perhaps we should start using Sunday to rejoice. Rejoice no matter what you've gone through during the week. Rev. Macon stated during this sermon that a faith that hasn't been tested is a faith that can't be trusted. Rejoice through your tests and look for these marks of a good Christian. The first mark is praise. What can the enemy do to someone who overflows with joy? Think about it. Don't you notice how much angrier someone gets when you don't get angry back, and perhaps, smile? The second mark is prayer without ceasing. You have access to God at all times and acceptance though all things. What power!! The third mark is a prevailing person. In everything, give thanks. Hebrews 12: 1-3
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
You are going to have trials in your life, but you're going to endure it. In this passage, we see this happening to the Hebrews. They are in a time of trial and tribulation. The writer is trying to encourage them to stay strong and in the race. Think about this, we've gone to see races. 5K, a 10K, and some people even run half-marathons. While there, we see lots of runners drop out of the race, right? Something goes wrong. They might get a cramp. They might get sick. They may just change their mind. Don't let this be you. When you feel this way in your life, when you want to drop out, think of Paul and fight the good fight. Keep your faith. Consider those that ran before you and didn't give up. Look inside yourself and prepare. Be patient and have faith. Mark 16: 1-8 NIV
16 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3 and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”
4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. 5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
6 “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene,who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’”
8 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
There were four points that Rev. Macon wanted you to get out of this sermon. 1. This is a message of encouragement. Be not afraid. He is RISEN and God did it. 2. Resurrection doesn't need a worker, it needs a witness. You also need to witness God's goodness in your life. 3. Be not afraid. You seek Jesus who was crucified but is not risen. We should because we don't serve a dead Jesus. We serve a living Jesus and a living God. 4. He got up so you could get up! Be blessed!

Isaiah 53: 1-6(NIV)
Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. 4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent so he did not open his mouth. 8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was punished.
We mess up daily. Every single day we fall short and if we truly had to be held responsible for all of the things we've done, we'd be dead already. BUT (this is Rev. Macon's favorite word) HE was wounded for us. Your past doesn't have to haunt you because Jesus took those transgressions for us. By His stripes, we are healed. Matthew 25: 14-30 (NIV)
4 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. 19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’ 21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.Come and share your master’s happiness!’22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’ 23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.Come and share your master’s happiness!’ 24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ 26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. 28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
In this parable, Jesus is comparing the Kingdom of Heaven to a lord and his servants. Just for clarity, in this parable, when Jesus speaks of talents, he's talking about 15 years of wages per talent. Wow! What money, right? In the parable, we learn that one man gives his lord a 100% return on investment. He gets 5 talents and returns with 10. We learn another man received two and came back with two more. Think about this as an account of your stewardship. The man with two talents wasn't envious of the man with five talents because he realized that none of the talents actually belonged to him. We should be the same way because nothing that we have belongs to us. It belongs to God, and God blesses us according to our ability to handle it. Some folks have five talents, some folks have two talents and that's okay! Rev. Macon said during this sermon that "you don't have to have the best, but you have to give your best."  Let that sink in for a moment. A blessing that you aren't ready for can quickly become a course. Don't worry about your neighbor, worry about you! If God has given you two talents, use them!  When he sees your ready, he'll bless you with five. So, if you have two talents, one talent, or ten talents, don't be afraid to use what God has given you.
Remember, God didn't give anything everything, but he gave everything something.

Ecclesiastes 8: 12-13(NIV)
12 Although a wicked person who commits a hundred crimes may live a long time, I know that it will go better with those who fear God, who are reverent before him. 13 Yet because the wicked do not fear God, it will not go well with them, and their days will not lengthen like a shadow.
As humans, we naturally wonder "why" all of the time. As Christians, we probably ask "why" more! You have some trial or issue and you ask, "God, why me?" "Why must I go through this?!" It's natural, but everything is going to be alright. Remember Job? God tested him because he knew he could take it and hold on to his faith. Going through his tests, Job remembered to give God praise through the bad times. It's the same for us. God sees our faith and he has a blessing for us. Being a Christian doesn't make you immune from trouble, but, good news, it you keep your faith and love God, it's gonna be alright. Be blessed! ]]>
